Open Letter To Mommie On Mother’s Day

💐 Happy Mother’s Day 💐
On a day full of platitudes and feined photos of perfect families, we want to authenticlly recognize our mother.
You are not just the Mother of the Church, The Faithful First Lady of Fellowship Community Church, Grammie of 10, Mrs. Grammie to countless others, and Aunt Twyla, but you are 3 people’s mother.

We three have had the great pleasure of calling out to you in excitement on a swing, making the winning shot in a basketball game, success in modeling, joys of weddings, and triumphs in life. We have also experienced the safety of running to you after a nightmare or scraped knee, and finding shelter in you after the ridicule and cruelty from the world hit us the hardest. You lifted our heads when we completely failed, you encouraged us to keep going when we felt like we couldn’t take another round.
You were there for our first steps and held our hands as we all cheered for our children’s first steps; you intervened with perfect timing in our lives, and swept in like a sweet breeze to refresh us, even when we didn’t know it was what we needed.

Most people know you as a quiet person, and soft-spoken peacekeeper, and that’s true, but Augustine was famous for saying:
“Hope has two beautiful daughters; their names are Anger and Courage. Anger at the way things are, and Courage to see that they do not remain as they are.”

You’ve had enough love for us to embrace hope completely for our lives. You have been angry enough at our shortcomings to lovingly correct us; and courageous enough to see the things in us that needed change, from that place, you led us to the Cross where we would find our salvation.
You held us as children and spoke life over us with all hope for the future, your tenacious hope for us has matured, and bubbled over in us.
We are your legacy, the truth you held to of raising up children in the way they should go and in their old age, they will not depart from it. You have cuddled those who would one day partner and shoulder the weight of the Pastorate, be an Elder in the church, and preach the Gospel to the nation’s; you wiped our tears and now we wipe the tears of others. We have not departed from the Truth of God you pled over us.

Thank you for all that you do, and who you are. We fiercely love you.

Your Children,
Geo, Qiana, & Ariel
