Connected To A Collector

Most people think of collections as a benign concept kept by the friendliest and quirkiest amongst us. But there are many kinds of collections and collectors.

There are those who collect: cars (toy or life-size), frog figurines, stamps, plates, keys, antique furniture, and even clothes. Then there are those who collect the living or creatures that once lived such as: ants, deer heads mounted on walls, taxidermied Lions, Cheetahs, and all manner of other beautiful creatures.

But the most sinister among us are the: collectors of hearts, the collectors of wrong doings, the collectors of mistakes, collectors of unfinished thoughts, and uncompleted ambitions, the collectors of unrealized dreams, the collectors of failures, the collectors of insecurities.

These collectors display our most vulnerable and exposed hurts in veiled cases behind every conversation. They trot them out in disagreements to crush their assumed opponent. The threat of reminder causes fear inducing silence and bitterness to expand like wildfire.
